Current Volunteers and Interns

Shannon Fontius 

Shannon is currently working with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in San Diego, a refugee resettlement agency that assists newly arrived refugees to integrate and navigate the American system during their first year in the United States. As a volunteer with the Power of Love Foundation, she is working with POL's Social Media Team to help design and implement a social media strategy, and build and maintain relationships with funders for our programs.

At the IRC, Shannon’s role as Health Navigator is to support refugees with significant medical conditions to access the appropriate care and resources in the community, as well as, to coordinate transportation and interpretation services.

Shannon graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, San Diego with a B.A. in International Politics and a minor in Spanish Literature She is interested in the fields of psycho-social health and health education and hopes to pursue a MSW/MPH in the near future.
 

Amritha Subramanian:

Amritha is currently with Kingfish Group, an advisory and co-principal investment firm based in the bay area. Amritha shares responsibility for the firm's public and private investment partners, and leads sector initiatives in post-secondary education, food, testing, and transport.

Previously, Amritha was a Graduate Research Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she completed graduate coursework in Political Science and focused her research on the intersection of technology, politics, and communities. Amritha also helped launch Glassbooth.org, a non-profit website that is creating innovative ways to access political information.

Amritha has worked for the United States State Department at the United States Embassy in New Delhi, India and graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Economics and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Kelsey Kauffroath:

Kelsey Kauffroath is currently interning with the Power of Love Foundation (POL). Some of her responsibilities include: raising awareness about POL's work in social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, updating the POL website, and managing the donor data base.

Kelsey will be graduating from San Diego State University in May 2011, with a Bachelor of the Arts in International Business. Kelsey loves the area of International Business as she has always been fascinated by diverse cultures and people of the world. She has served as a Student Ambassador in High School travelling to France and England. In the fall of 2010, Kelsey took classes in Madrid, Spain where she was able to fully immerse herself in another culture. Through these experiences, Kelsey feels that she has gained a greater understanding of the world.
