April 2008
Dear Power of Love Friend:
Hope the current season is putting a spring in your step.
On April 28, the Power of Love Foundation teamed up with the United Nations Association of San Diego to build a unique women's empowerment addition to the "Art Miles Project", a global art project created by UNESCO. "Art Miles" is the collaboration of five thousand murals painted by thousands of global citizens from all walks of life which will ultimately convene in 2010 alongside the Egyptian pyramids. When completed, the "Art Miles Project" will span an incredible twelve miles, with 440 murals per mile.
The Power of Love mural was painted at the North Park Library in San Diego, California. Amy Dagman, a well-known San Diego artist, provided the design and led the effort. The mural symbolically portrays the liberation of African women empowered to build their future and supported by the love and caring of their sisters and brothers from around the world.
It was a fun evening. Children of various ages, their parents, and community members, all let their creative energies soar as they worked on the mural. The setting provided a great opportunity for people to discuss the ideas represented in the mural and Power of Love's work in Zambia, Kenya and India. Everyone was excited by the thought that their artwork would be displayed in the World Art Exhibition in Egypt in 2010.
A picture of the completed mural will be posted soon on the Power of Love website.
POL is currently expanding its Micro Finance programs in Lusaka, Zambia. We want to add 100 new loan grantees in 2008. Please consider supporting this or other POL programs. If you wish to contribute to any of the POL programs please visit our website or email us at info@poweroflove.org.
Peace,
Your friends at the Power of Love Foundation
