June 2011 - Inspiring children and goals for the year
Dear Power of Love Friend:
Happy June! We seem to have skipped right over spring this year, but here's to a fruitful summer. This newsletter is about children: not the lovely children in Africa, but the children back here in the US. We'd like to tell you a few stories of how they are sharing their skills and energies to support Power of Love.
Recently, we shared with you news about Jack, a nine-year old in Colorado who raised $1623 for children in the Power of Love projects in Zambia. We received an outpouring of admiration from many of you to that newsletter.
For the second year in a row, a group of students at the La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, PA took it upon themselves to raise funds for women and children struggling with malaria. Their passion and caring for serving people half a world away inspires us to reach out and do more. Thank you to this wonderful group!
Two students from The George Washington University, Anne Wernikoff and Annu Subramanian, are presently volunteering at Power of Love's clinic in Zambia. Anne and Annu have embarked upon a journey of learning and service and are posting in a blog to share their experiences. Please visit Annu's blog with Anne's photography.
Our Goals for 2011:
1. Provide an additional 2,000 long lasting insecticide treated nets to children and families vulnerable to Malaria in Zambia.
2. Continue to provide food, medicines and a package of life-saving health care services to 150 HIV-positive children enrolled in POL's clinic in Zambia.
3. Provide 100 new micro loans and business training to women so that they can start a small business and take the first steps towards self-reliance.
