Our Work

Fighting AIDS - Everyone a Caregiver

Power of Love provides care for children infected with AIDS - in the communities they live in. We work by partnering with community-based organizations. We document and share our learnings and success stories. We bring into our work best-practices from:

  • technology
  • business process ideas
  • family and community structures
  • churches and religious institutions
  • other effective community programs in southern Africa

In all our work we incorporate four key ideas:

  • Effectiveness: our performance measures require that we reach people at a lower cost.  This allows our dollars to reach the most children and women.
  • Sustainability: our work should involve community members with minimal foreign intervention and support
  • Scalability: as our work expands we should take advantage of economies of scale, lowering costs even further
  • Replication: document and build capabilities to make it easy for us to replicate our work quickly in new communities

Pilot Programs
Before launching any major project we create pilot programs to test our new ideas These pilots have several functions:

  • Iterative Development: Our pilots give us flexibility to incorporate new ideas to continuously improve our work and react to changes in the HIV/AIDS environment, policy, and technology.
  • Operational Model: Seeing our pilot in action, its results, and its performance provides us and the community the necessary confidence to invest in the new program.
  • Hands-on Training environment: Pilots give us the opportunity to create a hands-on training environment for our volunteers to prepare for the larger program.

Funding Needs
We have four funding needs:

  • Providing care: Our highest priority is to provide quality care to all the children in our program
  • Learning, documenting and disseminating: We take our Share the insights from our models with other organizations engaged in the fight against HIV/AIDS
  • Expanding our work to new communities and provide care to more children
  • Operational overheads: We maintain low costs because our team is comprised of professional, skilled volunteers.

How your investment is used to support the work of Power of Love:

Individual donations go directly to providing care for the children.

Institutional donations and grants go to providing care as well as our work in documenting our learnings and sharing with other. We have very low operational overheads. These are covered through institutional grants and specific individual donations.

By providing microloans, medical care, and prevention and treatment education, this money has a direct impact on the people of Matero, as well as the communities in which our partner programs are located.
