Why Donate to Power of Love?
We put 100% of individual contributions to work. Every dollar collected is earmarked for those being helped. Only 5% of our institutional grants cover overhead costs including travel, fundraising, website maintenance, research, and publications. The remaining 95% is used on the ground in our programs. We also maintain continuous monitoring of all projects to ensure that funds are utilized effectively.
Here are some suggested contributions and their potential for impact on the ground. In each case we have highlighted opportunities where your contribution will have a significant impact.
$100
Provides a micro loan for a grandmother or caregiver of orphans (where one or both parents have died of AIDS). These grandmothers often find themselves with 5-10 grandchildren and little means to feed and clothe them. We help structure small loans to give them an opportunity to start a small home-based business. The next grandmother receives the same $100 when it is repaid. The payback rate is astonishingly high (>96%).
$250
Provides half a year’s salary for a community health worker to monitor the welfare for a number of infected children and adults in their neighborhood. These women are the front line of defense for a crumbling family network. Often they are the only ones aware of births, illnesses, deaths and the only resource for getting these families aid, care, and education. Strengthening one community worker impacts multiple homes.$500
Provides all medication and basic food to a child or mother dying of AIDS for an entire year. This includes care, in-home support, and monitoring.
$1000
Provides all medications and material costs to run our mobile clinic for a full month. The mobile clinic provides care, all medicines, psychosocial support to children, HIV counseling on preventing infection, free and confidential HIV testing and referrals to the local clinic. Think of this as a birthday gift – sponsor a month of the mobile clinic in honor of a loved one on their birthday.
$2500
Sponser a bed in the Day Clinic. Your donation will provide all medications, food, and care for one bed (as many as 36 patients in a year). The Day Clinic beds are occupied by severely ill children and adults. We have learned that when these patients are given loving care and treated with dignity, over a third of them return home to live another 6 months to a year. Sponsor a bed in your family’s name.
