December 2025 - Cabo Verde is malaria free

Cabo Verde, a country off the west coast of Africa, was certified malaria free by the World Health Organization and is one of only eight countries in Africa to receive this honor. This is the result of a partnership between the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and malaria and several agencies of the government. Together they invested in stronger health systems and collection of data regarding region specific methods to prevent malaria alongside research on malaria vectors. Researchers and workers on the ground believe that reducing malaria has led to large gains in GDP, which in turn, made malaria elimination easier.
Power of Love, has been working in Zambia’s most vulnerable communities for 20+ years. We have seen what happens when families sleep under bed nets nets during the malaria season. When communities have the tools and the knowledge to prevent disease, we see fewer clinic visits, fewer missed school and workdays, income stabilization, and more resilient families.
Cabo Verde has inspired us to double down our efforts to eradicate malaria from Zambia. At this time we are raising funds to provide 10,000 long lasting insecticide-treated bed nets and training and education to families most vulnerable to malaria such as children under five, pregnant women, people with HIV or TB, and the elderly. The provision of 10,000 nets will protect 35,000 children or 20,000 adults. Every $5 provides a net and training to a family. And, as always, 100% of your donations goes directly towards malaria prevention and education — never to overheads.
With gratitude,
Your friends at the Power of Love Foundation
