March 2025 - We have launched a Mental Health Program in Lusaka, Zambia

Dear friend: Happy March!

As we shared in our recent update, shifting policies from the White House affecting USAID and U.S. government commitments have created unexpected challenges for the women and children in our programs. Please know that we are actively exploring solutions to ensure uninterrupted care and remain committed to the communities we serve.

On a more uplifting note, we’re excited to share a major milestone: the launch of our Mental Health Program in Matero, Lusaka! This initiative has been years in the making, responding to a growing need we’ve long observed. In collaboration with the country’s only mental health hospital, we have trained our healthcare team extensively and are proud to have a dedicated mental health nurse leading the program. Our focus includes depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders.

Much like when we first launched our HIV program 22 years ago, we are approaching this new effort with thoughtfulness, regular debriefing sessions, and continuous learning.

Mental health services are especially vital in underserved communities, where economic hardship, overcrowding, and lack of basic resources create unique stressors. Women, often bear the heaviest burden.

Thank you for standing with us as we take this important step forward. Your support makes this work possible.

With determination and hope,

Your friends at Power of Love
