Happy New Year! - 2018 is off to a Great Start
Dear Power of Love Friend: Happy new year! We have a wonderful piece of news to kick start 2018: in Florida, a group of scientists have demonstrated a "functional cure" for HIV. In a novel approach, a new compound effectively suppresses production of the HIV virus.
November 2017 - We are Winning Against Malaria
Dear Power of Love Friend: Happy November! We are thrilled to report that we are winning the fight against malaria. Globally, there has been a 21% decrease in malaria incidence, and a 29% decrease in malaria mortality over the last five years.
October 2017 - A Haven for Orphans and Vulnerable Children
Dear Power of Love Friend: Happy October! In Zambia, this is the start of the summer season. Orphans and vulnerable children from our community of Matero, in Zambia, enjoy playing and learning with us on Saturday mornings.
September 2017 - Malaria Prevention Using Recycled and Waste Plastic
Dear Power of Love Friend: Happy September! You will be happy to know that we completed a unique workshop in our community in July. The workshop provided training on how to make mosquito-blocking window screens out of recycled waste plastic.
August 2017 - Zero New HIV Infections
Dear Power of Love Friend: We hope you are having a wonderful and relaxing summer!
Impact of Program Activities on the Health of HIV+ Children
Key Program Activities and Impact in 2017
Over the last ten years, this program has grown, matured, and continues to provide a comprehensive package of lifesaving health care services to 350 HIV+ children and their families in Zambia. Key program activities completed in 2017 are given below:
Orphans and Vulnerable Children Are Learning in a Safe and Fun Environment
Children enrolled in our "Safe Park" program are battling the devastating effects of poverty, abuse, HIV, and AIDS. Many have lost parents and family, experience deprivation and abuse, have been stigmatized, and suffer overwhelming grief.
Zero New HIV Infections in Children Born to HIV+ Moms
With your support, we are seeing a reduced incidence of HIV in our community, and fewer new HIV infections especially amongst children born to HIV+ moms. A critical element of our pediatric HIV care program is the training in HIV prevention and care provided to families of all 350 HIV+ children.
