Key Program Activities and Impact in 2017
Over the last ten years, this program has grown, matured, and continues to provide a comprehensive package of lifesaving health care services to 350 HIV+ children and their families in Zambia. Key program activities completed in 2017 are given below:
With your support, we are seeing a reduced incidence of HIV in our community, and fewer new HIV infections especially amongst children born to HIV+ moms. A critical element of our pediatric HIV care program is the training in HIV prevention and care provided to families of all 350 HIV+ children.
Dear Power of Love Friend: Happy July! UNAIDS has set an ambitious goal: to end AIDS by 2030. This can be achieved if 73% (compared to 25-37% today), of all people living with HIV are on medication.
Dear Power of Love Friend: Happy June! We are happy to report that we are winning the fight against malaria. Globally, there has been a 21% decrease in malaria incidence, and a 29% decrease in malaria mortality over the last five years. This has been possible largely due to better access and use of long lasting insecticide treated nets in sub-Saharan Africa.
Dear Power of Love Friend: Happy May! As children in our hemisphere are getting ready for summer, children in Zambia are starting to take out their warm clothes to prepare for winter. In addition, children from the community of Matero look forward to Saturday mornings when they can participate in Power of Love's "Safe Park" program.
Dear Power of Love Friend: Happy April! Today we would like you to meet Alex who enrolled in our pediatric HIV care program last year. Alex inspires us with his cheerful attitude and love for learning amidst difficult circumstances. Both his parents are HIV+ and he was suffering from fever, lack of appetite, weight loss, and diarrhea since he was a baby.
Dear Power of Love friend: March brings good news from Zambia; we are seeing a lower incidence of malaria in our community! With your support, we were able to provide 2000 nets and education on malaria prevention last year.
As a result of our malaria prevention program we are seeing a reduction in the incidence of malaria in our community and with improved health more children are able to attend school regularly. Power of Love’s malaria prevention program, provides long lasting insecticide treated nets and education on prevention of malaria to children and families vulnerable to malaria in the community of Matero
