Executive Summary
The POL team in San Diego would like to say a big thank you for your continued support for the children and families in our pediatric HIV care program in Zambia. Over the last two years, this program has grown, matured, and continues to provide lifesaving health care services to 350 HIV+ children and their families in Zambia.
Your generosity is helping provide a safe and learning environment for orphans and vulnerable children from Matero – a community that is characterized with a high incidence of HIV, TB and malaria.
Life became difficult for Joyce when she lost her husband to AIDS two years back as she is the sole caregiver for five children (four her own and one nephew). During a weekly home visit for her youngest child who is enrolled in our pediatric HIV care program, POL’s health care worker advised her to enroll in our micro loans program. Joyce says her life changed in April 2016 when she enrolled.
The goal of our pediatric HIV care program is to strengthen the community by equipping families with tools to take care of their HIV+ children. Family members of children enrolled are provided with training in caring for an HIV+ child, and education in HIV prevention. This leads to an improvement in the health of the children, prevention of HIV, and reduction in stigma associated with HIV.
Thanks as always for your support for our work in the area of women's empowerment and community strengthening in Zambia. As you know our goal is to empower women by teaching them marketable skills so they can take better care of their families, keep their children in school, and become role model for others in the community.
