Dear Friend: Happy July! Our teams in San Diego and in Lusaka are working to eradicate malaria in Zambia. Malaria, which is both preventable and curable, is still a public health challenge as 88% of the Zambian population is at risk. Malaria could be fatal for children under five years of age as their immune systems are not yet fully developed.
Dear Friend: Hope you are having a fun summer! Our partner Jagruthi, continues to provide high quality health care and education to several hundred children of sex workers. Most children are undernourished, have access to little or no medical care, and live in unsanitary environments in and around Bengaluru, India. They need professional medical care, counseling, and education.
In March 2019, 209 new women were provided with a four-day business training. These women replaced the women who graduated earlier this year. This implies that in the first three months of 2019, 209 new businesses were started, and the 209 graduates are continuing to run businesses in the community.
In 2018, generous donors helped provide new loans, business training, refresher training, and on-site business mentoring to 400 women entrepreneurs in Zambia. These program activities resulted in a huge and sustained impact on hundreds of vulnerable women and children in a resource poor community in Lusaka, Zambia.
